Lying on the northwestern coast of South America, the
Republic of Colombia is one very popular place for a vacation with its Amazon
rainforests and lush tropical grassland along with the Caribbean and Pacific
coastlines. It is a popular market for agriculture, textile and fabrics, automotive
industry as well as for forest products and other things like construction
equipment, military products etc. Blessed by Mother Nature, Colombia is also
rich in terms of architecture, music, dance as well as culture and traditions.
Quite a popular place for vacation, Colombia has its own list
of dos and don’ts. If you are visiting for the first time, here is a list that
would help you:
Dos:
1.
Be polite as the people from Colombia are very gentle, well-mannered
and welcoming.
2. Be alert: After what is written above, don’t put down
your guards because it’s not that everybody can be trusted equally. Be careful
about your valuables because mugging is quite common at certain places.
3. Shop! There’s a lot of shopping that you can do around
Colombia and while doing so, remember to negotiate before settling for the
price.
4. Do find an authorized money exchange store and be alert
while getting the money exchanged.
5. Do enjoy the famous black Colombian black coffee called
tinto, and don’t be surprised because it will be well sugared. Accept this
drink politely because it is customary there to offer this to the guests.
Don’ts
1. Don’t trust anyone and everyone. Be watchful of thieves
and thugs. In fact, women should be extra careful while walking down the
streets alone in the dark.
2. Don’t talk about homosexuality, especially around the
older generations because it is not acceptable in that area.
3. Don’t use drugs because it is a taboo to even talk about
this issue, even if you’re simply joking about it.
4. Don’t criticize people and the culture of Colombia
because people are very close to their roots.
5. Don’t wear shorts, especially if you want to be more
comfortable around a crowd. Remember, many pubs and restaurants won’t allow you
if you walk-in in shorts.
